On Saturday July 9th, We got to see Sister Hazel, for free, on a whim! They were playing at the "Colts Aquapalloza" at Bella Vita Restaurant on Geist Reservoir. It was an incredible amount of fun despite the incredible heat. Because of the venue we were able to stand mere feet away from the band as they played.

And this picture is evidence that we also got to meet a few of the band members and snap this awesome picture with them:

4th of July, How'd you get so fly?

Chris and I have always loved the 4th of July! (I know it is ridiculous to post about it in the middle of January, but I'm trying to get caught up!) For the over 8 years we've known each other we've always seen lots of fireworks and loved every single one. This year was no exception. Check out some of the incredible things we got to be a part of:

One newer tradition for us is to see the Symphony on the Prairie with my family. It is so relaxing and fun. The ISO always does a wonderful job! Oh! and we love the canons!

Amazingly, this year Ron's dad (Gary) and step-mom (Julie) were able to come with us! I think they enjoyed it too!

Chris' childhood 4th of Julys were always filled with time at their family's lake house, so this year we did that too!

We even went in to the little town of Akron, IN to check out their 4th of July Parade! Who doesn't love a parade?

The final and perhaps most important and oldest traction for Chris and me is to head to downtown Indy and watch the fireworks there. It is something we've done together since our first year of dating, and it is one of my favorite things. Simple, romantic and fun.

Opening a "new door"

Last Summer (August 2011) Hubby and I finally tackled something we've been dreaming about for a long time. Taking our new door from boring to amazing. When we bought our house the front door was 100% flat and completely blended in with the house. Functional, but not over the top welcoming.

We added some trim pieces to make it more interesting and painted it a joyful yellow color. Soon we'll buy some more exciting hardware for it, but for now we are over the moon in love with our "new" front door.

Anniversary #2 - Kentucky

Over Memorial day weekend in 2011, Hubby and I took our annual Anniversary trip. I can say it is annual now because we have done it twice! Last year we conquered Tennessee this year it was Kentucky.

Our first stop was in Cumberland Falls, KY we found an adorable little cabin to rent for a couple of days.

We love vacation rentals because it gives us the opportunity to do some cooking for ourselves, which we love to do, rather than eating out for every meal. Here you can see the yummy stuffed chicken we made on our 1st night there.

Before leaving this part of Kentucky we lucked into finding this adorable winery. When we found it, they were having an event with a band. We got to meet the owner and were delighted to learn that she grew up in Anderson, IN!

After the falls we headed north and stayed in a great hotel right in the heart of downtown Louisville, KY. We picked out a great restaurant called Saffron's to have our fancy anniversary dinner. We very much enjoyed the food there!

After dinner, we took off to discover some of Louisville's night life. They have an amazing area with a bunch of bars and resturants called 4th Street Live. We checked out all the goodies at the Hard Rock and perused some of the other bars for a drink.

Sadly, most of our awesome plans for Monday were thwarted because of the holiday, but we had a great time!

Wednesday's morning workout was less of a run and more of an adventure. I ran at 6.0mph for the first 5 minutes to get warmed up. After that, I cranked up the incline and slowed down the speed. I also did some lunges and lots of free weight work.

I struggle to include strength training in my routine so this is at least an attempt.

On Saturday, Sara and I were supposed to run the 10k Polar Dash in Chicago. Unfortunately, as we were heading north from West Lafayette on Friday night, the weather and traffic was just too dangerous. We were very sad to miss the race, but it was definitely not worth putting ourselves and our hubbies in danger just to run 6.2 miles the next morning

We had both prepared ourselves for running in the tundra, so we decided to complete our race even though we were not in Chicago. We ran our full 10k around the Purdue campus. Our feet got wet from snow, but we didn't get very cold until we stopped running. We finished in 1h and 11min which is in lock-step with our expectations!

Today I ran 1.3 miles outside with Baylee. When I realized it was 39 deg outside I bundled up and off we went. That might be Baylee's last run for a little while, since the "snow-pocalypse" is coming today.

Saturday morning was another lovely day, so I decided to take a LONG run. Well, long for me. I ran 5.2 miles out in the sunny brisk weather. Baylee, of course, ran the first 1.3miles with me. (love her)

My calves are silly tight from the shock, but it helped me feel better about the 10k Sara and I are running this Saturday in Chicago. BRRRR!

3.1 mile tready run! I skipped my morning run in favor of snuggling with my hubby and my puppy. I figured if I missed my morning run I could do a LONGER run in the evening.

Luckily for me when I got home, The Biggest Loser was on. I have found this to be great motivation. It always seemed silly to SIT and watch Biggest Loser.

In 2 weeks I'll be running a 10k with my running buddy, Sara, in Chicago. I wanted to make sure I could still do some distance, since most of my runs lately have been short morning interval work.

Yesterday morning I didn't realize until I woke up that it was going to be so mild outside. I pulled up the weather on my phone and it was 55 degs outside. I jumped at the chance to run outside again with Baylee before the truely frigged mornings fall upon us!

We ran 1.3 miles.

While Baylee and I were running outsidee, Chris got his workout on in the gym with the elliptical and tready.

Yesterday, I decided it was a good day to do another round of Jillian's 30 day shred - Level 2. I definitely like the level 2 work out better than the level 1, but it still kicked my butt.

S'more Cupcakes

Way back in June, I attended a company cookout. I was assigned to bring a dessert for the event, and I wanted to come up with something creative. I really love s'mores, so the idea of making a s'more cupcake sounded perfect!

Most of the recipies I found involved creating/using a marshmellow as the icing, but I wanted to use chocolate icing and have a surprise of wonderful marshmellow on the inside of the cake.

First I tried cooking them with the Marshmallow already in it:

The result was a nice moist cupcake, but there was not much creamy filling:

I crushed up some grams:

Made some more creamy mellowy filling:

Covered with chocolate icing:

Turned the icing over into the crushed up grams:

Added some baby mellows on top, and volia!

This morning I ran 1.6 miles on the Tready. I got up late so I was trying to get the distance in a shorter amount of time. I ended up running mostly between 6.0mph - 7.0 mph. I thought I was going to die, but I did not!

Today is the inaugural day of this winter's treadmill running. After the 30 day shred yesterday, I thought a run would be prefect. Hubby got a new light set up in the gym for me (so I could see in the dark), so I got up and did some interval running! I ran between 5mph and 7mph. I know that is slow, but I'm a slow runner! That's how I roll!

Yesterday morning it was frigged outside, so I decided it was time to move to the 2nd level in the 30 day shred workouts. This workout was fantastic! I was dying, but it felt fantastic. It really is awesome to push yourself to do things you didn't think you could do! Go try it sometime SOON!

I missed my run the day after our big event at work because I didn't get home from the event until 1:30am. So few made it into the office before 11a on Wednesday.

Thursday on the other hand was a cold and rainy morning, but Baylee and I braved the elements! we ran 1.3 miles in the cold cold rain!

By the time I made it to Friday it was super cold in the morning, so I decided to wait until the afternoon/evening to run. After work, I grabbed Baylee and we did 1.3miles at a pretty high speed. I have been working a lot and trying to do a lot in the last few weeks. After working late tonight, I was feeling quite stressed. I decided that the solution to my current mental state was a long run. The beautiful weather was just screaming for me to take a run.

Tonight, I ran 4.2 miles. First I took Baylee twice around the neighborhood because she really wanted to come with me. After that, I took off on this route around Edgewood.

Running brings me back to life.

Monday morning instead of running I took out Jillian's 30 Day Shred and did that instead of my run. I've only done it a few times, and every time it kicks my butt. I'm thinking this is going to be a great idea for mixing things up with Tready in the winter! It's a plan!

Yesterday morning, Baylee and I ran 1.3 miles. It is very difficult to get started, but I feel much more awake after I run. I had a LONG day ahead of me, so it was a good thing I got my run in in the morning!

This morning Baylee and I ran 1.3 miles. Its a good thing I talked myself into getting out of bed because before my run I was sleepy and grumpy (and other dwarfs as well). After the run, I felt alive and ready to have accomplish anything. I never thought I would be this person, but here I am!

I am finding it more and more difficult to get up for my runs. As the mornings get colder and darker I'm struggling to get excited about getting up and out on the road. I'm determined not to fall off my running 'horse', so this morning Baylee and I conquered 0.86 miles and I did many reps of lunges to make up for the shorter run. Wish us luck as the winter sets in. It is only going to get tougher from here!

Welcome to October! This is prime running time! Unfortunately, I am not used to the COLD that has been coursing through Indiana this week. Yesterday morning, It was too cold to get out of bed and take Baylee for our run, so I promised her I'd take her out in the evening when the temps were nicer. I know I'm a wuss, but at least I followed through. Baylee and I ran 1.3 miles just in time to clean up and watch the Colts game on MNF.

This week I have unfortunately been ruthlessly attacked by a cold virus. I choose not to run when I have a cold mostly because the deconjestants I take affect my heart rate, and I'm uncomfortable pushing that issue.

Yesterday, I was feeling a bit less congested, so I gathered up my Pup and bundled up and we went for a morning WALK -- instead of a run. It felt good to make an attempt to keep up my morning routine even though I was unable to run just yet.

It was COLD out! I'm not used to this weather yet!

Yesterday's run was a good one. I am finding it more and more difficult to get out of bed early because it is so dark in the morning. Trying to put myself to bed a bit earlier has helped with this a little. Baylee and I ran only 2 laps (0.9 miles) this way I had more time to do some strength work... squats and lunges etc.

Today, Baylee and I ran 1.3 miles as usual, but this morning Chris ran too! He got up early and ran before us. I am so proud of him I can't even express it to you!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he'll run the Indianapolis Mini Marathon with Me/Sara in May 2012
